We are stoked to announce the latest Camera Cruise for 2010. image001.jpg

For those new to the concept, the Camera Cruise is a workshop that allows you to combine business with pleasure.

The Skinny

The Camera Cruise includes 4 awesome in-class workshops highlighting concepts like working with children in a photosession; 5 ways to WOW your clients; marketing & branding; post production made easy-make your albums in 1 hour and much much more.  Not to mention a 1 day long excursion photo walk and all the fun that Carnival Cruise has to offer.

Why is this different from other workshops?

For the last few years I've been fortunate to attend several awesome workshops to help grow my photography business.  Each one I've carefully selected for it's uniqueness, it's originality and ofcourse it's level of expertise.  However, what ultimately comes from that decision is the following scenarios that plague my mind.

"Wifey needs to hear this!!!  I can't wait to get home and translate all this knowledge to her so we can apply it to our business.  I really need to bring her next time.  It's settled, the very next workshop we are going together."

"No problem, except for someone needs to watch our 3 children for a week.  Perhaps I can ask my sister.   With her 3 other children maybe she won't mind 3 more?"

"Even of can convince someone that is willing to watch our kids how can I continue to justify leaving our kids while we visit exotic locations growing our business.  Especially as our goal  was essentially designed to spend quality time with our family???"

When I researched further, I found alot of photography families were in similar predicaments.  What's worse I found that the Photog Mentors leading the workshops actually had the same concern as they never have an opportunity to even bring their significant partner let alone their family members when conducting their own workshops.

So the wifey and I designed the Camera Cruise.  We are not saying it's better than all the rest rather it's just designed for those who truly want an excuse to combine business with pleasure.  Growing your business and enhancing your skills as a photographer does not need to take you away from your loved ones to attend yet another conference.  There is no need to decide between vacation and work anymore, join the limited seats on the Camera Cruise and learn from award-winning photographers while you vacation in the caribbean.

Why else should I attend?

Oh yeah... and few other reasons listed below as well.

Get tips, advise and learn techniques from a who's who of professional shooters
Learn and use the latest equipment and technology through great product sponsors
Is not just about technique and style, it also covers many areas of running a successful photography studio
Visit and shoot awe inspiring landscapes that you wouldn't have the opportunity to otherwise
Be exposed to a multitude of styles
Whether you're a novice or a Photog Mentor, this is a great way to raise your profile as a photographer
Take a cruise, visit and exotic destination and bring the family along

What are people looking for in their Workshops?

In a previous workshop, I dared to ask the question "What is wrong with workshops?" and received a great array of advice from both Photog Mentors and Photog novices from many different sources.  My fault, I should next time pose that question through one source.  Here are a few of responses that are incorporated in our workshop.

"Many workshops don't live up to their hype." Ron Dawson - Agreed, we don't need to sell anything more than the obvious...exotic location backdrops.

"Most workshops overbook, and have a gaggle of photographers clammering to be a part of a model shootheather rivlin - Confirmed, we are offering limited seating.  Really, we mean it.  We are not doing this for the money folks but rather we want to focus on intimate networking with friends, family and photographers.

"Everyone wants to be a Rockstar. Look for workshops that have credible photographers.gene higa - We connected with some awesome Photog Mentors...nuff said!!!

"someone has done this for 10 years and still loves it enough to want to sharelifeimages. - Amen to that...a good mentor dosen't come by often.

"There is no better condition for people to bond than to get together with other people in the sam industry struggling with the same problems and respecting the same leaders."  lan bui - We can relate.

Lastly, leeann marie sums it up best with her response "I also appreciate the idea of workshops that offer a focus on one small piece of the "photography world"

This is such an awesome idea, and its perfect for those of us photogs with kiddos! Unfortunately we can't make it to this one, ( and I'm kicking myself cuz it sounds like a blast) but I will definitely try for the next one. Looking forward to seeing some shots from this amazing cruise. Have fun.

Okay I haven't tried this myself so I can't give a proper review but after the Camera Cruise I can't wait to try it. Just like the name: Tourist Remover, is a software that helps remove unwanted objects like "tourists" out of your pictures. If anyone is familiar with the software, let me know how well it works.

It might seem strange to ask the question "What is wrong with workshops?" on a Camera Cruise workshop blog but I want a constructive comments on how this concept can be improved.

My experience?  The workshops I've attended in the past were awesome.  I've always enjoyed the knowledge and the network gained throughout the seminars.  But often struggled with how to attend these workshop with wifey and plan around our family vacations.

So I look forward to hearing your response and comments. I'll even provide the start words for you.

Ron Dawson:

Many workshops don't live up to their hype. They say one thing but don't deliver everything they promised.

(02.17.10 @ 10:39 AM)
Heather Rivlin:

Most workshops overbook, and have a gaggle of photographers clammering to be a part of a model shoot that has been poorly organized - it is the reason I limit mine to 10 photographers - you can't learn while simultaneously being elbowed out of the way by an eager shooter. I know some haven't delivered what was promised and I think that stinks. If people can't provide a professional experience for people, don't bother because workshops are a LOT of work to pull together and it shows when you do it half-assed.

(02.17.10 @ 11:50 AM)
Gene Higa:

Everyone wants to be a Rockstar. Look for workshops that have credible photographers. Photographers that have more than 10 years under their belt. Working pros, not ones that want to see you products.

(02.17.10 @ 12:08 PM)
lifeimages.:

Well I gotta say, the thing about workshops is ... there are so many! It's certainly not like there aren't enough workshops out there to choose from (and that is a GOOD problem to have I would say). What other industry shares so freely? Hmmm, not many. Like Gene said, if someone has done this for 10 years and still loves it enough to want to share, their perseverance would be inspiring (examples: Joe Busink, Marcus Bell, Mike Colon) but some new photographers have a lot to offer as well! Be picky and do your research before you sign up for sure but just because somethings aren't perfect, does that mean you wouldn't go? I hope not! Keep learning, keep shooting, keep getter better and better and take advantage of an industry that has an open door policy! =)

(02.17.10 @ 01:02 PM)
Lan Bui:

The problem with workshops these days is that people go into it with the wrong expectations. Many times that is because the person putting on the workshop is not doing a good job representing the workshop.

The thing about workshops, even the bad ones, even the over priced ones where people say it was not worth the money... you come out of it having met, bonded and growing relationships with the other attendees. Most of the workshops I've been to end up like that. The attendees go out after the workshop and complain now crappy it was, but then all the attendees end up keeping in touch and building great relationships.

Here's the thing, a bad workshop is the perfect place to meet other people with the same interests as you. Like minded people coming together to learn and teach each other. There is no better condition for people to bond than to get together with other people in the sam industry struggling with the same problems and respecting the same leaders.

All that said, the one workshop... well it is much more than a workshop... that I think is worth every penny... actually much more... is [ b ] e c k e r 's party of 5. If you go to one of these and it does not help you... you have no other way to succeed. Becker is an efficiency expert, he may not call himself that but he is. And that is what will make you succeed after his workshop, you will be able to have a workflow that actually works.

(02.21.10 @ 06:05 PM)
Leeann Marie:

+1 Lan. I also appreciate the idea of workshops that offer a focus on one small piece of the "photography world" i.e. Lightroom or Photoshop or Posing, rather than trying to encompass everything. I believe that if you attempt to teach it all, you will have disappointment. One attendee might not have got to shoot enough, while one may have wanted more workflow information. I think this emphasizes the importance of first examining your weak points or your strong interests and motivations for attending a workshop, and then identifying an absolutely respected PRO in that area. So I guess in short, my answer to "what is wrong with workshops?" is - it could be everything if your scope isn't narrow enough.

But +1 on the friendships and ability to learn from others who were drawn to the same workshop as you.

(02.26.10 @ 01:38 PM)
Carl Reid:

Great point. At this stage of my photography career I too want to focus on specific aspects of the photography business. Plus the friendships are a bonus!!!

(03.02.10 @ 05:36 AM)
Carl Reid:

I can relate to bonding with other photographers. There is something very satisfying when connecting with other photographers who truly get it. The friendships and lasting relationships can truly help you business grow.
